Several years ago, when I was in school, and Bombay was facing a water crisis young school going children were urged to write articles, poems, flyers or whatever they could come up with to encourage saving water and dicourage wastage.
I wrote an article that was published in the Mumbai Times, and I hope helped make a difference somewhere, somehow!
Here is the story that I had sent to them.Urging people that really a difference is made by one single act..everything begins from me..just like a drop comes together to make an ocean. Each single contribution adds up to some thing big..so don’t ever shy away when you know a large task is at hand..Do your bit and trust me it will make a difference.
A man was walking along the beach when he noticed a small child picking up and throwing starfish into the sea.Curiously he asked the child,”why are you doing this son?”.”I am putting the starfish back into the sea so that they can live.”, came the reply.
Amused the man said,”there are so many of them, you can’t help all of them.” But the boy kept picking up starfish and throwing them back into the sea.
Irritated now,the man said,”You can’t make any difference, there are so many.”
The boy, he picked up another starfish, threw it back to the sea and said,” Look,I’ve made a difference to that one.”
Don’t shy away, don’t be scared by the magnitude, little by little we will get there!
